Lol you can tell Caydiem really hates the community, she never even came in to say hi since she quit the CM job
This isn't true at all. She is still someone that cares about the community, but you'll have to forgive her for her need to keep focused on other duties in the company and having little time for visiting here. I can assure you, she does read the forums when she can. :)

Enhancement shaman - Low blow:

Yesterday night, I had a new low blow on my enhancement shaman (made me lol more than anything tho).
A friend of mine was in a WC group, and people kept dropping from the group, so I told him "Stay there, I'm going to run you trough". Being level 70... sure was going to be a quick run.
Then, a level 20 shaman in the group sent me a tell
"Hey, what spec are you"
I reply "Enhancement"
He quickly replies "Ok, bye", and disbands from the group
Of course, I lol, as I 1 shot right about everything from the instance... but that got me wondering... Is other player's perceptions of enhancement really that bad... that was pretty much... a low blow heh |

Q u o t e:
THE HISTORY OF BUS SHOCK!
Phase 1 -
Shaman review was supposed to be in patch 1.9 - however the completely gimp state of paladins got through to the devs and they got their patch in that cycle instead. Since paladins at that point in the game had been nerfed into 3rd rate tanks, lowest dps in the game and crappy healers all anyone wanted them for was blessings and cleanse. So this was reasonable. Shamans were told - wait for 1.10
1.10 patch cycle - Paladin buffs make priests cry - Priests get reviewed instead of Shaman. Shaman told to wait for 1.11, mages told they will be in 1.12
1.11 - Mages throw a conniption about the delay - Mage and shaman reviews are combined into the same review cycle. Eyonix is sent to the Shaman forum to start a suggestions and feedback thread and one of the other Devs does the same for Mages.
Phase 2 -
Eyonix goes to E3 - misses about 5 days of work, then at the end of e3 has a gout? flareup and is out sick for several weeks.
Tseric and Caydiem come into the Shaman forums and say they will be gathering feedback in Eyo's place. "search for 'bite sized' to see some of the threads spawned by these posts"
Review period comes to a close - 1.11 patch hits PTR - it contains Mage buffs, Druid buffs and a wide variety of shaman nerfs. There is exactly 1 non resto shaman buff - the craptastic t6 enhance talent is taken out and replaced with +10% melee damage. Druids get innervate for free ( Edit : that was their last , top tier talent in the resto tree , ie 30 talent points required to get to it !) . Mages get Evocation for free ( Edit : that used to be tier 5 talent powerhouse in arcane treee, ie 21st talent point ! ). Shaman still have to spec 31 resto for mana-tide (despite Mana tide being trainable, bloodlust and hex being the three most common requests during the review period)
Euro forums have a mild eruption - Euro CM looks into the problem and posts there that the Shaman feedback was apparently never submitted to the developers, and it is too late to do so - the patch is going live as is, and shaman have had thier review.
Cross posted to the US shaman forums - general disbelief and outrage occurs.
Phase 3 -
Eyonix gets back from sick leave and pops into the Shaman forum long enough to say "How do you like your review?"
Pure Hatred explodes (including death threats and the "get hit by a bus" statement, aka BUS SHOCK!
Forum mods spend the next 48hours deleting threads and banning people. Eyonix posts that he will not do anything to help the players because they are not treating him with respect (this seriously happened, search for the blue post archives).
1) This is a fairly accurate representation of things. However, a few things worth mentioning that I felt wouldn't have done any good at the time. Most importantly, your feedback did make it in on time. There was some miscommunication with our other regions and a post was made that indicated something that was in-fact false.
2) Tseric and Caydiem came into the forums and made the message you indicated. However, much feedback had already been gathered at that point and the class design team was also actively reading the shaman boards during that time.
3) Gout really sucks.
4) My post wasn't actually indicating that I would not help players until I received "respect", but rather that I'd not be making many posts (communicating information) until players (as a whole) began posting with some level of respect and reason -- however, the situation was far too agitated at that point. | |

Neth, Tseric, Caydiem, Eyonix, etc, etc. How many times do these people have to make fools of themselves attempting to "understand" a class' pvp problems? I'm sick of reading Tseric's class posts in any forum; saying how priests are the best healers if they spec right (paladin pvp healers anyone?) or in shaman forums telling them that elemental shamans should melee. I don't blame him or any other CM, I blame blizzard for obviously not getting a good mix of CM's who are KNOWLEDGABLE in different fields of the game.
There's two obvious aspects of this game...PVE and PVP. How much sense does it make to just hire CM's that just understand the PVE element of the game, and perhaps a very limited amount of PVP knowledge (usually limited to their main's experience.) Contrary to what is to be believed by listening to CM's, there ARE people who play wow that have multiple 70's by now and know A LOT of the problems facing MULTIPLE classes in pvp. These people are the one's you want as CM's!
I'm not saying the current CM's are worthless, they're people persons...that's what they do best, they may not know every class like some people, they may not know the major problems of every class, but they sure know how to selectively respond to threads, and gosh darn, ain't they witty sometimes?
But, for the love of Thrall, can we please get some diversity in the CM core? Keep the cute little current ones for those witty yet useless responses they're renowned for and perhaps hire some more knowledgable one's for the actual hard hitting data, problem solving posts.
Just think it over.
P.S. for the current CM's: There's a pretty pink bunny in the next post, quick find something witty to respond with and ignore this post (or just accidently prove your worth and forward it to someone with value.)

You know before Caydiem and Eyonix left they were promising to give us an update on penguins for ages. And now they're gone. Supposedly to bigger and better things but I have to wonder if Blizzard didn't dissappear them. Maybe arrange a little accident? This is all a conspiracy to cover up the truth about penguins, isn't it??
Neither are gone. Eyonix is still here on the Community team. Caydiem has moved to a different department. The great penguin conspiracy doesn't exist. The men in black suits will be there soon to emphasize this to you. ;)

Since the release of the first Warcraft game, the lore of the Warcraft universe has been evolving and expanding at an incredible rate. Today, Warcraft lore is spread across four games and three expansions as well as a number of novels, a pen-and-paper roleplaying game, and even a manga series. Now you can find all there is to know about Warcraft in one official source of all things Warcraft:
The Warcraft Encyclopedia- http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/index.xml
The Encyclopedia will contain information about all major races, factions, and characters, and you will also learn interesting new things about the different worlds that make up the Warcraft universe. The first release of the Encyclopedia focuses mostly on the elves of Azeroth and their relation to each other : night elves (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/508.xml) high elves (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/429.xml) blood elves (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/338.xml)
You might also want to take this opportunity to brush up on your Darnassian (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/361.xml) and Thalassian (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/576.xml), and if you ever plan to visit the Emerald Dream (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/encyclopedia/394.xml), it would be best if you read up about it in advance.
This collection of Warcraft lore will be updated several times a year with significant volumes of new information, and in time, it will grow to be the ultimate resource for all your Warcraft story and lore needs.
We hope you’ll enjoy the Warcraft Encyclopedia!

I will take both of your 10 dollars. You can paypal me. Not that you'll believe me when I say that this is not the Creative Development team's way of keeping track 'for their own sake'. This is something we wanted to give to the community and are having a great time putting it together. It's great watching people get excited about the lore all over again.
No this isn't want Caydiem is working on. Nice guess but she has plenty of other things on her plate.
There is too much pessimism in one thread for such a fun new feature. You all should learn to loosen up a bit! Enjoy the little things! ;)

How come CTA can do what B. can not?:

CM's have said out loud that they know we want a LFG system. They have said they don't have any information on one. They never will tell us stuff ahead of time. Wait, they have.
If they can tell us stuff about the expansion. If they can un-nerf (poisons) and renerf. If they can make many changes to gameplay (linked AH's, BG's, more instances). How can they not give us a tiny ability to make groups better?
Call to Arms (http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=1440) can do what Blizzard can not do from launch. Okay, it takes time to change things. But you said out loud you adapt things from addon's that you liked. Why can't you adapt a LFG system?
I like to go to instances. I like to be in groups. You have tried, but nothing you have done is on the quality of Blizzard. Meeting stones, linked capital chat, and global chat are so cheap of an effort compared to CTA. Can you please try to put a person to work on integrating CTA into the game, so at least the people that want to use it can? People are scared to download/use addon's that aren't in the game unless forced to (CTRaid, etc).
Please, can you have someone work on LFG system, so we don't have to wait until the expansion. If you can fix other things fast and put in temporary fixes, can't you temp fix this until you get a better system?

Q u o t e:
No offense, but Caydiem was here before you and she told us that a LFG system was being worked on. That was well over a year ago. Is it really appropriate to say "oh just be patient" when players have been waiting well over a year for a LFG system, that works?
I'm assuming by "be patient" you mean it'll be out at the expansion. If so, how about a preview? Something. Toss us a friggin bone.
A preview is something that we plan to work on and get out to people. (Sorry I don't have an eta.) :) Yes, I know Caydiem was here before me and said it was being worked on. I am here now and telling you it is coming with the expansion. She laid the foundation for the message of the coming and I'm here saying we're about ready to usher it out into the light of day. Greetings from Gen Con! Tseric and I are here at Gen Con representing Blizzard in the Upper Deck cards section, showing off Burning Crusade and offering some witty and dry conversation. You can also check out the upcoming World of Warcraft card game which is being played and displayed right next to us.
Everyone has been really nice so far, and although our feet are a bit sore, we're looking forward to the next few days here at the Con. So if you're here, or nearby, drop in and say hello.
We had a full cast of characters from the Scarlet Monastery in some amazing costumes that dropped by ealier today, hopefully some pictures of them start showing up soon. They all looked great, but I couldn't help but feel a little bad for Herod who looked like he was boiling in his costume. The righteous fire has come back to bite him. |

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I think I'm going to be glad I don't have the morning shift tomorrow.
Oddly enough the same young lady who first took her picture with Eyonix and Caydiem at a previous Gen Con, releasing their faces to be put into a wide array of defamatory imagery, got both Tseric and myself on film. I'm not sure when her photo will show up, but it's something to look forward to... maybe... probably not.[ post edited by Drysc ]

Anyone can pick up a sword and shield!:

I remember a while back, wondering why gnomes, with their obsenely small stature, were able to pick up weapons and wear very heavy armor. Gnome warriors never made sense to me. I wondered for a long time until I saw justice for the topic. A CM posted on the forums saying that "Anyone, of any race can pick up a sword and fight, even the tiny gnomes!" I didn't think this did the topic justice, but I was satisfied, afterall, maybe those huge weapons I see the taurens carrying everywhere could be dropped at a smaller scale for our tiny friends.
Up until just today I had been looking very closely at what the expansion offered and I was pleased. I thought to myself that Blood Elves were pretty cool, we'd finally have a race with two plate classes in it and some caster support to back it up... well, when I first read the classes, I guess I missed the fact that a key class was missing: warrior!
I feel like I've been lied to! I've always loved the lore that Blizzard has set up for their games. No other story has been so detailed and twisted as Warcraft, but when the lore not only bends to fit the game, but breaks alltogether, that's not right! All races can brandish a sword and be angry machines. Obviously the blood elves can handle plate, and weapons, they are both rogues and paladins. Well, maybe the concern was that they wouldn't be able to find a warrior's rage... hello? Their the angriest race on the face of Azeroth at the moment! Their capital city was destroyed by the scourge, they've been nomading for the last four years of the Warcraft story, they've lost their source of power? I'm pissed just thinking about what they've been through.
It seems that lore went all-in on two pair and game mechanics and balance played a full house.
Well played Blizzard; I love the game and story too much to quit, but you could have done better than this...
Edit: I'm well aware of the other similar posts, but from player-to-player, I want to share my thoughts too, since I so rarely do.[ post edited by Sota ]

Only to keep the Blood Elf Warrior threads to a minimum am I locking your post. It's not the least bit personal and I appreciate you taking time to post.
The CM that did that quote was Caydiem back early on in WoW's lifetime and she even said "As it stands" meaning that as the mechanics were at that time it was so. Things change and so thus we would like to move forward now.
Thanks.

I've never seen such completely absurd changes over the last few months.
Draenei Lore to start.
Then Paladin BEs and Draenei Shamans.
None BE Warriors are the latest.
------ From CAYDIEM HERSELF:
"First, understand that, as it stands, every race in Azeroth can pick up a sword and fight the good fight. It doesn't require much in the way of born ability, as does, say, magical aptitude or a natural dexterity. It doesn't require faith. All it requires is the willingness to take up a sword and shield and learn how to take a blow. It's very much a "basic" class in that sense, and all races have their foot soldiers, their infantry. That is the Warrior." ------

We're not disagreeing with the statement that Blood Elves would make good Warriors. The fact is, many classes made sense for the Blood Elves. We wanted to choose six, however, to keep the number of options in line with the Draenei. The statement from Caydiem shouldn't be taken to mean that we'd never allow a race in this game to be void of the Warrior option.
The fact of the matter is we're quite pleased with the six classes chosen for both of the new races and we don't feel that we're breaking the game by breaking the tradition to allow warriors as a class option. | |

I've been a long time lurker of the forums, back since I first came on to read the FAQ's posted for some of the classes. I mostly read it as entertainment when I'm bored at work, although I do on the occasion gleam some interesting tidbits of information or enjoy some well-written posts on various topics.
Regardless of the topic of the day, it seems there is one consistent and to me, nagging question that has never been answered or properly addressed. That is:
"Are we going to get better communication?"
CM's are moderators for the most part. That's it. They have their opinions and such, but I doubt they can be considered the "voice of Blizzard" if you will. As such, other than perhaps some condensed reports they may pass along to certain dev's or what have you, their usefulness to actually help decide the direction of the game is non-existent.
As a player, and one that believes he has at least a few ounces of common sense and maybe a foot or so in the door of reality, I understand that ultimately the games direction will be decided by the company and not by the players. Too rare is it for even the largest group of dissatisfied customers to come together and perform some act (such as cancelling their account) that will actually force the big guns at a company to take notice and enact change.
However, as this is a subscription based game, and therefore assumes a continued level of service, I would really like it if a new form of communication was created to help bring the players and decision makers together in some fashion, so that at least there could be some kind of understanding as to the thought-process behind the actions Blizzard continues to take.
While entertaining in its own right, I most certainly do not feel that I've gotten my moneys worth from a game I continue to pay for. Continued payment in a game that has a cap as to what can be done, one would expect the additional content that is released to include more for me to do. But in retrospect, it really hasn't. Giving me more flight paths does not give me more to do. Giving me a few cheesy holiday quests does not equate to the additional content I'm expecting. An extra battleground that now is near impossible to find anyone in became worthless. More 40-man dungeons that I can not do because I happen to enjoy playing a class that is in high abundance, and therefore am having great difficulty in entering a raiding guild, does nothing for me. And now I have to spend yet more money with the expansion if I am to truly get anything that I can perceive as real additional content.
In any case, I won't rant and rave because I find it to be pointless, and all the more so because I don't feel there is any appropriate line of communication that gives it credence. The talent reviews are an excellent example of cause for disbelief in believing that what is being written is being passed on. Certainly it could be and the dev's simply chose for the most part to ignore it. But I can't know that, one way or the other.
In the end I am simply a small fish in a sea of millions who is well aware of this. I will continue to play because it still does have some appeal and it is a place where I can continue to converse with new friends I have made that I otherwise would never have known. And if my dissatisfaction continues to grow, then certainly I will cancel and think nothing of it. But I'm giving it a shot, trying to voice some ideas and hope for something better. As it stands I will be able to look back on my time with WoW and see it as something good that could have been great.
In any case this is all I've wanted to say. |

Q u o t e: Regardless of the topic of the day, it seems there is one consistent and to me, nagging question that has never been answered or properly addressed.
Some people would say you are getting better communication. I am new to the team and am helping to fill a gap that was left when Caydiem moved on within the company. There is a lot of work that gets done in the office and with her move it left even more work to be done split among the Community team. I'm picking up that work and easing that bit of burden so that everyone can be more effective in their own assigned areas.
Despite what you think, Community Managers are not just moderators. We have many duties which include bringing the players messages about the latest news and updates as well as the thinking behind the developers (as we can.) We do in fact carry Blizzard word with us and that is why we are always so careful about what we have to say. Even if we state something is our opinion or feeling, people will take it as Blizzard word anyway.
We also do a lot to bring what players are thinking and feeling to the developers. This in turn helps the developers get a 'larger picture' of what is going on with the game beyond their own experiences in it or their own understanding of the inner workings. Just because they may not always agree with the players does not mean they don't listen or want to know what is being said by the players. We read the forums, respond with answers when we have them and play the very same game and listen to what is going on in the game as well as give our own feedback.
You may believe that our influence on your behalf is non-existent if you wish. That is your choice. There isn't anything we could show you specifically that is going to change that perception. Despite how you may feel though, we will continue to strive to do the best we can for the community and for the team we work for and with on a daily basis. | |

Nethaera, the Lore/RP CM?:

Just curious about this is all. Before, we had Caydiem as a source of lore, our go-between from the lorecrafters and the players. A few weeks after her departure, we find the fiery (pun intended) Nethaera stepping up... taking her place perhaps?
It seemed to me that her posts gave subtle hints that she belonged to an RP server of some sort before becoming a CM, so I'm merely questioning if she will be taking Cay's place. It would be wonderful to have someone that cares about the lore being able to give us loremongers some scraps every once an a while. |

I know I risk more of these types of threads or the wrath of the mods but I'll answer you. :)
I have characters on PvP, RP-PvP and Regular PvE servers.
I enjoy the co-existence of RP and PvP both. One gives the other more meaning. I've even been known to write now and then. ;)
I love lore and while I'm sure I'm not up to Caydiem's level of knowledge once I dive into something I soak it up like a sponge. I am by no means attempting to take her place. I don't think anyone could. I will have to make my own path. I do hope however that I can do what I can to keep the community informed on as many things as I can however, including the lore. | |

Does Caydiem have a replacement? Lore time!:

Could a Blue who feels they can take up Caydiem's former lore addict position answer this question?
I understand the Light being a philosophy more than a religion and I've read about the Three Virtues and how altruism is as bad as hedonism in this philosophy, but it still leaves me wondering where the magical abilities of the paladins come from.
Furthermore, if they are exclusive to those following the paladin order and teachings, how do the Scarlet Crusaders, who clearly bring pain and suffering to the world (and universe by the Light's teachings), still wield the same abilities? |

No sorry. No Jedi here.
I'd also never try to 'replace' Caydiem. She has her own place in the hearts of the community members.
I'll just have to make my own path. :) | |

Wasn't there a Blizzard poster named Caydiem or something like that? I heard he did something wrong... or something. Any info? |

Q u o t e: If I remember correctly, she got promoted and now lords over all of the other, lesser, CMs.
She is still here at Blizzard, and she definitely still lurks, but she has moved on to... greener pastures. Like, crazy hurt-your-eyes day glow green. I say huzzah, huzzah Caydiem! Who will join me in a huzzah? | |

I always wondered why Rogues were the only class that knew how to kick stuff. Even Warriors don't know. |

Q u o t e: I mean no offense, Drysc, but your blue post in this thread makes me miss Caydiem. Her explanation would be so much more BS-filled as she would actually try to have it make sense in the context of Warcraft lore, and it would work pretty well as always.
In no way would I ever want to even attempt to best Caydiem at anything, but I’ll give it a shot anyway.
*ahem* The nimble and agile rogue, known for their precision and pin-point accurate execution of specific abilities, are the only denizens of Azeroth able to literally interrupt someone's casting ability simply through the use of their feet. Different pressure points on the target are given a precise foot-slap, injuring and slightly disorienting the target, causing them to lose focus of their current conjuration. | |

Good luck Caydiem! We're all very happy for you, and are comforted by the fact that we can still easily annoy you on a daily basis.
